Vacation ?

This weekend I went camping with Jesse and Rob. We drove up to Pinecrest early on Saturday morning and met up with the Kochs and the Clarks. We had stopped to purchase some beer in Twain Harte, where I wondered aloud what Boddington's tasted like; my friend Rowena's last name is Boddington and the day before she moved back to England, I found some of this beer at Whole Foods but never tried it. Jesse told me it was great so we bought a little four pack. Upon arriving to our campsite, Jesse and I opened them up and have to sat that I thoroughly enjoyed inaugurating my vacation by consuming such a wonderfully made beer. God bless the British.

We kicked off our vacation by waking up Jonathan and having him walk with us down to the little lake near the campsite. We stopped at the dock and Rob jumped in the water. I soon followed, despite my irrational fear of fish touching me (they just feel so weird !). It was cold so I decided to get out. Following the consumption of a beer or two each, Jonathan convinced me and Rob and Jesse to walk down to these logs that are chained together and floating atop the water near the docks. Jonathan jumped in and started climbing all over the logs, dextrous as he is, making it look terribly easy. Myself and Rob and Jesse entertained ourselves with a short theological discussion and paid no real attention to the logs. Finally we made our way back into the water and onto the logs.

What a stupid (and hilarious) idea. The logs were wet, unstable, and worst of all, slimy. I flew off the first log almost immediately. Rob and Jesse are pretty athletic-looking guys, in good shape and all, so I figured they'd be able to walk on them just fine, and that it was just my uncooridinated self that couldn't handle it. Nope. They couldn't do it either, and soon I was laughing so hard at the sight of those two flying off the logs and splashing in the water that I could barely remember to breathe. Who convinced us to drink and log roll ? Could it have been the beer ? There should have been signs posted : ALCOHOL + ATHLETICS = BAD. Now my legs and arms hurt from pulling myself up on the logs after falling off of them.

Later Daniel and Ruthie arrived, and we all had a good time playing Scrabble, reading Velvet Elvis (I counted three copies), eating pretty much everything in sight, taking walks and enjoying life outside of San Jose. In the morning, Maggie made her way into my tent. I looked at the dog and said "Hi Magnet" and went back to sleep. My alarm woke me up at nine and I realised I had just called the dog Magnet. That's a good name for a dog, I think. After breakfast we left for home. I wish we could've stayed longer, but we all had plans for Sunday evening; as Jim put it, I don't have to go to church, I get to.

When I got home I took a shower and called Joann. We went over the hill early to hang out with our friend Molly before church. I sat in the new coffeehouse and edited some photos from the trip.

Good grief. I need a longer vacation. PS :
You know you wanna hang out with that guy.

Ohmygosh, Pinecrest?!! I haven't been there since I was a teenager! But, oh what fun we had! Sounds like you did too. I'm glad. Oh boy, do I need a vacation. Relaxing Summer? What's that?! I don't even know what a relaxing weekend feels like anymore. I, for one, am glad Summer's more or less over. Now maybe I can be reminded of what it feels like to kick back and relax a little, or at least catch my breath.
